Most Active Options Today

Total option contracts traded across every strike and expiry, ranked. The index ETFs sit at the top most days, which is why the second column matters more than the first: it shows today’s volume against each name’s own twenty-day average, so an ordinary busy day in SPY does not outrank a genuinely unusual one somewhere smaller.

Contracts, not premium — one contract of a $2 option counts the same as one contract of a $200 option. The call/put bar shows the share of today’s volume that traded on the call side. Ranked among the 864 symbols carrying at least 50,000 open contracts.

Biggest jump against their own average

The same session ranked a different way: names trading furthest above their own twenty-day norm, among those with at least 20,000 contracts today so the multiple means something.

How this list is built

Volume is not the same as open interest

Volume counts contracts that changed hands today; open interest counts contracts that remain open. A name can trade heavily all day and end with no change in open interest, which means the day was traders passing the same positions between each other rather than new positioning being built.

Why the multiple beats the raw number

SPY, QQQ and the mega caps dominate any absolute volume list, every day, regardless of whether anything happened. Volume against a name’s own twenty-day average is the column that answers “is today different for this stock”.

What the call/put split does not tell you

A heavy call day is not a bullish day. Roughly 3.5% of option legs print with a visible aggressor, so for the rest there is no way to know whether the calls were bought or sold — and a sold call is the opposite trade. Read the split as where activity concentrated, never as a directional vote.

Looking for single large prints instead

This page aggregates a whole session per ticker. For individual outsized trades as they are detected, see unusual options activity.
